Preserving a Full Head of Hair Through a Hair Transplant

I hear about people who wait until they have fairly advanced hair loss before seeking treatment.

But what if you didn’t wait until you had serious hair loss before seeking expert help?

A lot of people have asked us:

The answer is a resounding yes, and North Atlanta Hair Restoration client Tyler is a great example of how it can be done.

Tyler’s Hair Preservation Journey

Tyler first started noticing slight hair thinning at age 26, with loss that was noticeable to him in the mirror by age 30.

He started using Rogaine religiously, plus finasteride on and off as a complementary treatment.

But the finasteride had too many undesirable side effects for him, and Rogaine, unfortunately, isn’t able to stop progressive hair loss.

Tyler realized he needed to seek expert help quickly, because he didn’t want to have to see what he’d look like with major hair thinning if he could avoid it.

He did research on every hair loss treatment available, including topical and oral treatments, FUT (the older strip method of hair transplantation) and FUE (short for Follicular Unit Excision).

He also found out there was a type of FUE known as Shave-less FUE, and thought that might be something he would consider in the future.

His extensive research on hair loss treatments and providers first led him to Dr. Daniel Danyo in 2015.

Preserving Tyler’s Nearly Full Head of Hair

After consulting with Dr. Danyo, he decided to try out a couple of treatments that could improve his appearance and spur new growth without surgical transplantation.

Dr. Danyo performed Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment on Tyler and used scalp micropigmentation to help obscure the areas that had begun thinning.

These conservative approaches met Tyler’s needs well for a while, but his hair loss in the temple and crown areas kept progressing—albeit more slowly—over the next few years.

Tyler was ready to try a new treatment to preserve his appearance, so he talked to Dr. Danyo about the possibility of getting the Shave-less FUE transplant he’d read about in his earlier research.

In fact, one of the reasons he chose Dr. Danyo originally was for his Shave-less FUE expertise and experience, in case it was needed.

So he was glad to already have an established relationship with a medical expert he trusted when the time came.

After careful consultation with the doctor, Tyler decided to have his first Shave-less FUE transplant.

Shave-Less FUE Treatment With Dr. Danyo

Tyler’s first No-Shave FUE treatment went exactly as he had hoped, providing him with new fullness in the areas where he’d previously seen thinning.

The treatment he had was a smaller FUE transplant procedure, moving just over 1000 hair follicles from the back up to the crown and temple areas.

There was no scarring, very minimal soreness and recovery, and no shaving of the head required.

That last part was very important to Tyler, who describes himself as “not a shaved-head kind of guy.”

He also didn’t want to have to hide or cover up the tell-tale signs of a hair restoration procedure.

For him, discretion was key, especially as a younger, socially active man.

Very Satisfying Results, With More Treatments As Needed

The results of that first procedure were so good that Tyler knew he’d found the right hair loss solution for his needs.

As the years ticked by and he started thinning in new areas, he would re-visit Dr. Danyo several more times.

He has so far had 4 of these smaller Shave-less FUE transplant procedures, and the result is a completely full-looking head of hair.

Tyler says his friends never believe him when he tells them he’s had hair transplants, because they never noticed his hair thinning and the results look so natural.

He has no noticeable scars, even when he swims or runs his hands through his hair.

And now, he never minds telling people about his hair restoration procedures because his hair always looks so good, he’s not ashamed.

Great Confidence, Along With a Feeling of Empowerment

When it first started happening, seeing his hair thin made Tyler sensitive about his appearance, and he was feeling more than a bit helpless.

Was it going to gradually erode his confidence? Get worse over time? Were the available treatments going to look really bad?

Luckily, Tyler found a doctor early on who could narrow down and explain all of the options and work with him on his budget, timing and aesthetic preferences.

He was relieved to already know and trust Dr. Danyo by the time he needed to explore surgical hair treatment options.

It felt like a big step at the time, but now he looks back and is very glad he started the process early.

Maintaining his full head of hair helped him maintain his confidence and a youthful appearance.

Dr. Danyo was able to ensure Tyler’s hair loss never got to a noticeable point, and, as he put it:  “I really, just really like that.”

His Advice for Others Worried About Hair Loss

Tyler says he wants others to hear what he now knows about preventing major hair loss before it becomes noticeable:

“Hair loss is never hopeless. There are always multiple options for help, and you don’t have to wait until you feel like you’re going bald to do something about it. Just stick with the journey, continue to get the right treatments and you’ll get the result you’ve been seeking.”
