What a Real No-Shave FUE Patient Experienced: From Consult to Regrowth

You can learn a lot about hair transplants on the internet.

The different types, how they work, the science behind them, and more.

But you never really know what to expect until you hear from an actual person who has gone through the process.

With that in mind, we talked to Mike, one of our No-Shave FUE patients, about his whole experience, from start to finish.

The Dilemma

Mike*, 55, lives in New Jersey and works as a facilities manager.

He started really losing his hair a decade ago in his mid-forties, mainly around the crown area, and tried minoxidil when it started to look pretty bad.

But Rogaine doesn’t do much once you’ve already lost a lot of hair, so he started looking into surgical hair restoration.

The problem was, he works in a public-facing job, and all the research he did, and the clinics he called, explained that they shave parts of the head for the procedure.

That stopped Mike in his tracks.

As much as he hated his growing bald spot, he just wasn’t willing to shave his head and have anyone suspect he’d had a transplant.

And he couldn’t take weeks off of work to hide while hair in his donor area grew back.

A Ray of Hope

Years went by, but Mike still dreamed of having a hair restoration to get rid of the thinning that had been bugging him for so long.

Finally, he stumbled upon what seemed like a perfect solution: Shave-Less FUE, where they take the hair grafts without shaving the area around them.

Excited, he called a few places.

But after he showed them pictures during his virtual consultations, they told him his bald spot, by now the size of a grapefruit, was too big to do that kind of procedure.

At first, he was crushed, but determined, he kept on looking.

That’s when he stumbled upon Dr. Daniel A. Danyo and his team at North Atlanta Hair Restoration.

The Consult

First off, Mike was pleased that he got to talk directly with Dr. Danyo during his initial consultation, not a salesperson, like on all the other calls and Zooms.

Dr. Danyo estimated that he’d need 2000 follicles grafted from the back to the top of his head to get the coverage he wanted.

Mike had held out hope for a miracle, but he was honestly a little surprised when the doctor told him he was a good candidate for the Shave-Less FUE procedure.

So why did the other places tell him it couldn’t be done?

Unfortunately, not all practices have the skill and experience with Shave-Less FUE to successfully perform it for larger hair transplants.

North Atlanta Hair Restoration is different, though. We actually specialize in No-Shave FUE.

The Procedure

Overjoyed, Mike decided he didn’t want to wait any longer.

He scheduled his hair transplant with Dr. Danyo for a Thursday and took off a few days from work for travel and recovery, just in case.

There was more good news:

Once they got started, it turned out that Dr. Danyo and his team were able to get full coverage and really natural blending with just 1600 transplanted hair follicles.

It turns out, the procedure was shorter and cheaper than Mike expected, too.

He went back to work the following Wednesday, but he says that knowing what he knows now, he could have easily gone back on Monday.

And the best part: he looked perfectly normal and didn’t feel discomfort at all.

No shaved head or weird haircut, and pretty minimal disruption for recovery.

Aftercare was simple, and Dr. Danyo even had helpful videos on his website detailing the recovery process and post-surgical care.

It was everything Mike had been looking for.

Regrowth and End Results

Of course, even the easiest hair transplant experience wouldn’t be worth the trouble if the regrowth wasn’t quite full enough or natural-looking.

For Mike, that wasn’t an issue.

His transplanted hair took root and started growing really well, right around the expected 3-month mark.

By month 6, he had full crown coverage that was perfectly blended in.

Because of his success, he’s now considering having another restoration where his hairline has started to recede.

What’s more, it’s still only his wife who knows he’s had a hair restoration, even his three kids living at home didn’t notice when he came home.

You can expect to see your new hair growth start at around three months after the procedure.

However, many patients continue to see improved growth and increasing thickness for up to 12 months after a hair transplant.

Can I wear a hat after a No-Shave FUE hair transplant?

You usually can! Just avoid hats and head coverings that are overly clingy like knit hats or doo rags, since they may pull on the healing grafts.
