Why is there stigma around hair restoration?
What is hair restoration?
Hair restoration can take many forms. When most people think of hair restoration, what they first think of is hair transplantation. This is a procedure that is done by removing the patient’s hair follicles from a particular part of their body, and is then placing them in the desired part of the patient’s body, usually the scalp. Considering the increase of popularity amongst many different cosmetic procedures, you’d probably assume this particular procedure is less stigmatized when unfortunately there is still shame surrounding it.
Hair Loss is VERY Common
It’s common for people to experience thinning hair as they age. When a man or woman loses their hair, it is usually completely out of their control. It’s unfortunate that they are shamed for having something done that many others would also do if they were in the same situation. We are very lucky to live in a time where we have such advanced technology and highly-trained professionals that can make us feel better about ourselves by administering an out-patient procedure.
It Used to Look Like Doll Hair
The stigma surrounding hair transplants still remains partly because the procedures weren’t always as advanced and efficient as they are today. When some people think of hair transplants, they may imagine obvious and unattractive-looking hair plugs, when now you can’t tell the difference from native and transplanted hair. If you are restoring what you have lost and it helps you feel more confident, what’s wrong with that?
Just Do You
We think you are beautiful just the way you are. However, there is clear evidence that for some people, there are serious mental health consequences that accompany their hair loss. Depression is common among hair loss sufferers. We are the ones who have to look at ourselves in the mirror every single day, and if there is a simple and safe procedure out there, then we should be able to do it without feeling bad or ashamed. Anyone who says otherwise is probably just dealing with their own insecurities and projecting them onto us.
Hair transplant surgery is a highly effective, more permanent, and minimally-invasive procedure that requires little recovery time and may give you a lifetime of confidence. This procedure has come such a long way and hopefully, the stigma will come to an end as more individuals show off their positive results and experiences. Everybody deserves to have the hair they want and to feel confident with their appearance.
